Local SEO: How to Get Your Business Found in Your City

If you serve a specific area — a salon in Ibadan, a clinic in Abuja, a restaurant in Lagos — local SEO is one of the highest-return, lowest-cost things you can do. It's how you show up when someone nearby searches 'near me' and is ready to buy right now.

1. Claim and complete your Google Business Profile

This is the single biggest local-SEO move, and it's free. It puts you on Google Maps and local search with your hours, location, photos, and reviews. Fill in every field and keep it updated.

2. Use your city in your words

Naturally include your location in your website, profiles, and content: 'affordable wedding photographer in Ibadan'. Google connects these phrases to local searchers. Don't stuff it — write the way customers actually search.

3. Get reviews — consistently

Reviews are the top local ranking factor and the top trust factor for customers. Ask every happy customer for one, make it easy with a direct link, and reply to all of them. A steady trickle of fresh reviews beats a one-time burst.

4. Be consistent everywhere (NAP)

Your Name, Address, and Phone should be identical across Google, Instagram, Facebook, your website, and directories. Inconsistencies confuse Google and cost you rankings.

5. Create local content

Posts about your area, local events, or city-specific tips signal to Google that you're genuinely local and relevant. It also resonates with the community you serve.
